Like it's predecessors in the series, this double LP edition is on color vinyl; the A/B side is green marble and C/D side is on red marble. The songs on Afrodisiac were tracks that Fela and the Nigeria 70 (Later Africa 70) re-recorded at Abbey Road Studios in 1972 after they had become hits in Nigeria. The best known song on the album is 'Jeun Ko Ku', a satire about gluttony and Fela's first major hit across West Africa. Fela's London Scene, released in 1972, is a top-notch affair, made with a smaller band but one that punches above it's weight. There is no tenor guitarist and no call-and-response choir, though sing-along vocals are a feature of "Egbe Mi O" ("please carry me"). Throughout, Fela's electric piano is gym ripped and razor sharp, and Igo Chico turns in three stirring tenor solos. "Buy Africa," written in 1970, was one of Fela's first politically-informed songs. The lyric was written in support of a government campaign to encourage local industry. "J'Ehin J'Ehin" ("eat teeth eat teeth") is along similar lyric lines as "Shakara." This time Fela is lampooning people who are so greedy that they eat their own teeth. In "Who're You," Fela channels James Brown's vocal style over an angular funk groove. "Fight To Finish" draws on Yoruba folklore to offer advice: once you have started something, be prepared to finish it.

UPC: 720841206415
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.14.16
Format: LP Vinyl

Tracklist

Side A

1. J'Ehin J'Ehin

2. E Gbe Mi O

Side B

1. Who're You?

2. Buy Africa

3. Fight To Finish!

Details

Label: Knitting Factory Records (KFR2004-3); Partisan Records (KFR2004-3) · Released: 2021 · Country: Worldwide

Tracklist

A1 J'Ehin J'Ehin

A2 E Gbe Mi O

B1 Who're You

B2 Buy Africa

B3 Fight To Finish

Credits

Zach Jaeger – Design, Layout

Chris May (6) – Liner Notes

Bernard Matussière – Photography By

Fela Kuti – Written-By

Roy Ayers was already a pillar of jazz-funk and soul when he touched down in Lagos, but that 1979 Nigerian tour reshaped both artists. The tour was about two black men together coming together, one from Africa and other from USA, a very exciting collaboration."

UPC: 720841114314
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 11.29.19
Format: LP Vinyl

Tracklist

1. 2000 Blacks Got To Be Free (18:39)

2. Africa - Center Of The World (17:32)

Details

Label: Phonodisk (PHD 003) · Released: 1980 · Country: Nigeria

Tracklist

A Africa- Centre Of The World

B 2,000 Blacks Got To Be Free

Credits

Grafikad – Artwork

Lekan Animashaun – Baritone Saxophone, Leader (Africa 70 Band)

Alake Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus (Female)

Fehintola Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus (Female)

Folake Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus (Female)

Ihase Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus (Female)

Tokunbo Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus (Female)

Chief Udoh Essiet – Congas (1st Rhythm Conga)

Okon Etuk Iyang – Congas (2nd Rhythm Conga)

Yomi Osunfisan – Design, Art Direction

Chas Gerber – Engineer (Mixing), Engineer (Recording)

James Green – Engineer (Mixing), Engineer (Recording)

Kayode Salami – Engineer (Mixing), Engineer (Recording)

Overbowale Moses – Flugelhorn

Kalenky Clement Djalo – Guitar (Bass)

Tunde Brown – Guitar (Rhythm)

Okalue Ojeah – Guitar (Tenor)

Chas Gerber – Lacquer Cut By

Taiye Ojomo – Percussion (Sticks)

Fela Kuti – Producer

Roy Ayers – Producer

Olagunju Omojola – Shekere

Oyinade Adeniran – Tenor Saxophone

Otenioro Olu Ifayehun – Trumpet

Fesobi Olawaiye – Valve Trombone

Roy Ayers – Vibraphone (Solo)

Fela Kuti's 1972 recording "Shakara" captures the Nigerian bandleader at a pivotal moment, when his Afrobeat vision was fully formed and his Afrika '70 ensemble was a locked, unstoppable groove machine. Formed in the youth clubs of London, Mercury Prize and BRIT Award-winners Femi Koleoso, TJ Koleoso, Joe Armon-Jones, James Mollison and Ife Ogunjobi have now spent over a decade making jazz joyful, urgent and undeniable. On Here Because Of Hope, they push that vision further than ever, asking a simple but profound question: why does so much Black music born out of pain sound so joyful? Their answer is hope: the belief, carried across generations and oceans, that something better is possible. Anchored by collaborations with Pa Salieu, Lila Iké, Leona Lewis, and reaching across the full breadth of the global African diaspora (including America, where those same African and Caribbean roots gave birth to jazz itself) Here Because Of Hope is a record of remarkable warmth, ambition and humanity, and the sound of Britain's most vital band at the peak of their powers.

Tracklist:

1. Part 1

2. Blow Your Trumpet

3. Sweet Echo

4. Don't Worry

5. Only Love (Feat. The Kalakuta raid he references in "Look and Laugh" wasn't abstract history for him, it was a brutal 1977 event in which soldiers burned his compound and threw his mother from a window, a wound he carried for the rest of his life.

Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense sees Fela explaining the role of the teacher in any society with the concept that everything we consider as problems, and everything we accept as good in life, begin with what we are taught. With production help coming from the extremely talented and prolific Wally Badarou, these songs have Fela s most full-bodied sound to date and a horn section that s much hotter and brassier than ever before. "Look and Laugh" is among Fela's most compelling songs and details the attack from Nigerian Soldiers on his home, the Kalakuta Compound, in a detached, almost journalistic way.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense (Part 2) (19:44)

Side B

1. Look And Laugh (Part 2) (19:47)

UPC: 720841205517
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 8.19.14
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Barclay (831 325-1); The sprawling, groove-locked title track runs nearly the full side of an LP, a format Fela had mastered for delivering social critique wrapped in irresistible rhythm.

"Fela used the cover of Ikoyi Blindness to announce his change of middle name from Ransome, which he now considered a slave name, to Anikulapo, which means “he who carries death in his pouch.” The front cover shows Ransome crossed out and Anikulapo added above it. Fela also used the album cover to announce the Africanisation of Africa 70’s name, changing it to Afrika 70.

In the title track, Fela draws attention to the economic chasm separating the haves and have-nots of Nigerian society, contrasting the get-rich-at-all-costs mindset of the residents of the prosperous Lagos suburb Ikoyi with the more community-minded attitude of the poor inhabitants of the Mushin, Maroko, Ajegunle and Somolu neighbourhoods. Ikoyi residents are blind to the sufferings of less fortunate people, says Fela.

Fela returns to the topic on the second track, “Gba Mi Leti Ki N’Dolowo (Slap Me Make I Get Money).” In Lagos in 1975 and 1976, there had been an upsurge in police and military personnel assaults on people in the street; motorists were commonly pulled out of their vehicles and given a whipping for minor traffic offences. Scandalously, the police and soldiers were being allowed to get away with corruption in broad daylight. Everything Scatter, originally released in 1975, is one of several masterpieces from early in Fela's mid-1970s purple period. In three extraordinarily productive years, Fela released 20 some albums of new material. The purple period continued up to and immediately beyond the Nigerian army attack of February 1977 which destroyed Fela's self-governing commune, Kalakuta Republic. By the time Everything Scatter was recorded, Fela had put all Afrobeat's key elements in place: the signature rhythms he had developed with drummer Tony Allen; edgy, jousting tenor and rhythm guitars; call and response vocals; fat horn arrangements and extended, jazz-based horn and keyboard solos; politically confrontational lyrics; and, crucially, the Broken English Fela adopted to take his message beyond Yoruba speakers.

Tracklist

1. Everything Scatter (Rere Run) (14:28)

2. Who No Know Go Know

UPC: 720841207313
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Philips (9286 434) · Released: 1976 · Country: France

Tracklist

A Everything Scatter – 14:58

B Who No Know Go Know – 15:14

Credits

Claude Marra – Artwork (Recto, Illustration)

Fela Kuti – Lyrics By

Unknown Artist – Photography By (Verso)

Fela Kuti – Written-By

Fela Kuti turned his own imprisonment into a political weapon, and *Alagbon Close* is one of the earliest and sharpest examples of that defiance. To mark it's 50th anniversary, the album is presented on Jollof orange color vinyl in a single pocket, wide-spine jacket with gold foil OBI strip.

Tracklist

1. Alagbon Close (17:01)

2. I No Get Eye For Back (11:24)

UPC: 720841207184
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.11.24
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Knitting Factory Records (KFR-2011-1); Label Maison (LM044LP) · Released: 2015 · Country: US

Tracklist

A Alagbon Close – 16:58

B I No Get Eye For Back – 12:35

Credits

Fela Kuti – Arranged By, Composed By

Lekan Animashaun – Baritone Saxophone

Franco Aboddy – Bass Guitar

Henry Koffi – Congas (1st)

Daniel Koranteg – Congas (2nd)

Nicholas Addo – Congas (3rd)

S. Beasts Of No Nation, originally released in 1989, was an indictment of the corruption and repression in post-colonial Africa. The album title cut addressed a variety of targets, each of them, said Fela, guilty of enslaving Africans: the Nigerian regime, the South African apartheid regime of P.W. Botha, Britain's Margaret Thatcher, America's Ronald Reagan, and the ineffectual United Nations. In addition to being vilified in the lyrics, Botha, Thatcher and Reagan are among the political leaders portrayed as beasts and devils on the front sleeve. Almost two decades after his death, vindication has come to Fela Kuti, Africa's musical genius. AfroBeat, his gift to the world, is now an international staple on his own uncompromising terms, social content intact.

Tracklist

1. Beasts Of No Nation (Vocal)

2. Beasts Of No Nation (Instrumental)

UPC: 720841205616
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Knitting Factory Records (KFR2043-1) · Released: 2015 · Country: US

Tracklist

A Beasts Of No Nation (Vocal)

B Beasts Of No Nation (Instrumental)

Credits

Kola Ono – Alto Saxophone

Fela Kuti – Arranged By, Composed By, Producer, Tenor Saxophone (Solo)

Lekan Animashaun – Baritone Saxophone

Rilwan Fagbemi – Baritone Saxophone

Femi Oladegunwa – Bass Guitar

Jonas Anyakor – Bass Guitar (2nd)

Akos Asiedu – Chorus

Chioma Ecosuisa – Chorus

Fehintola Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus

Folake Anikulapo Kuti – Chorus

Mary Umude – Chorus

Ngozi Nwafor – Chorus

Mosa Okome – Claves

Kwame Bako – Congas (2nd Rhythm)

Nwale Omabuwa – Congas (Rhythm)

Uwa Erhabor – Coordinator, Public Relations

Benjamin Ijagun – Drums

Keji Hamilton – Electric Piano (Rhythm)

Igna Igwebuike – Engineer

Akameah – Flugelhorn

Oye Shobowale – Flugelhorn

Ukem Stephen – Flugelhorn

Festus Okotie – Guitar (Tenor)

Dietrich Schoenemann – Lacquer Cut By

Ghariokwu Lemi – Painting

Soji Odukogbe – Rhythm Guitar

Dele Olayinka – Shekere

Olarewaju A. With the release of box set #5, and now on this reissue, the title track of this magnificent album is presented in its full-length, 25 minutes 24 seconds glory. While preparing the master disc for the box set, our engineer Jedi, Colin Young, discovered four minutes of “lost” material on the B-side of the original pressing, including a superb keyboard solo by Fela. This had been omitted from subsequent reissues. The restored version used here starts and finishes with Fela’s keyboard work, a typically venturesome blend of futurism and visceralism.

Original Sufferhead was the first album Fela released under Egypt 80’s name (he had disbanded Afrika 70 in 1979).

On the title track, arguing from the personal to the political, Fela describes the inhuman treatment and poor living conditions experienced by working class Nigerians, the people he called sufferheads. Recorded in 1971 with Ginger Baker behind the board and sitting in alongside fellow drumming legend Tony Allen, Why Black Man Dey Suffer was originally deemed too controversial for release by his label at the time. The title track is a history lesson on the oppression of the African man - detailing the litany of abuses they have suffered from being taken as slaves to having an alien people impose a new culture upon them, take their land, fight them, and set them against one another. The B-side is Fela's ode to the poorest of Lagos' poor that lived in the Mushin district; he contrasts the corruption of the upper classes with the humble lives of the people in Mushin. By 1972, when Music Of Fela: Roforofo Fight was originally released (on two vinyl albums, Music Of Fela Volume One and Volume Two), Fela was becoming one of the most avidly followed musicians in West Africa. His audience came from among the region's urban poor, the "sufferheads" living in the shanty towns around the major cities, along with growing numbers of students and political dissenters. Fela championed, and sang about the problems of, oppressed and exploited people and denounced the ruling elites lording it over them, with their seemingly endemic corruption and their ready use of violence to crush dissent - and because he generally sang in Broken English rather than Yoruba, and adopted an increasingly pan-Africanist outlook, his message resonated throughout Anglophone Africa. Roforofo Fight includes four upbeat, rhythmic tracks all clocking in at 12 to 17 minutes.

Tracklist

1. Roforofo Fight

2. Go Slow

UPC: 720841206613
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Jofabro (JILP1001) · Released: 1972 · Country: Nigeria

Tracklist

A Roforofo Fight – 15:33

B Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am – 12:00

C Question Jam Answer – 13:45

D Go Slow – 17:21

Credits

Remi Olowookere – Art Direction, Graphics

Lekan Animashaun – Baritone Saxophone

George Bruce – Bass Guitar

Henry Koffi – Congas (1st)

Daniel Koranteg – Congas (2nd)

Tony Allen – Drums

Emmanuel A. Upside Down and Zombie, both released in 1976, were made at the mid-point of an extraordinary three-year purple period during which Fela recorded 24 albums of new material. Upside Down is unusual in that it includes a second lead vocalist, Fela's American friend Sandra Izsadore, who he'd known since touring the US in 1969. Izsadore, a black rights activist, introduced him to the writings of Malcolm X, Angela Davis, Rap Brown, Stokely Carmichael, Huey Newton and other revolutionary thinkers. Fela later credited Izsadore with helping inspire his philosophy of Blackism. Izsadore can take credit for something else, too: she affirmed Fela's use of weed. Fela had first smoked in London in 1960 or 1961; during his time with Izsadore, he began to use weed regularly, continuing to do so until the end of his life. "Go Slow" was one of several songs Fela recorded which critiqued the consequences of over-rapid urbanization - in this case, traffic jams - using them as a metaphor to describe deeper social breakdowns.

Tracklist

1. Up Side Down

2. Go Slow

UPC: 720841205913
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.14.16
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: MCA Records (314 549 247-2); Barclay (314 549 247-2) · Released: 2001 · Country: US

Tracklist

Upside Down

1 Upside Down – 14:43

2 Go Slow – 14:35

Music Of Many Colours

3 2000 Blacks Got To Be Free – 18:37

4 Africa Centre Of The World – 17:31

Credits

Pompon Finkelstein – Remastered By

Fela Kuti – Written-By, Composed By

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4609/5166/files/packshot-fela-kuti-upside-down-180-gram-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1791061458
fela-kuti-army-arrangement-lp-vinyl
Fela Kuti – Army Arrangement

Recorded in 1985, Army Arrangement arrived as Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was navigating one of the most turbulent stretches of his life, just years after soldiers had ransacked his Kalakuta Republic commune and his mother, Funmilayo, was thrown from a window during a military raid. I.T.T. International Thief Thief (1980) was recorded following Afrika 70's disintegration and the formation of Egypt 80. It is one of a quartet of courageous 1979/80 albums completed by V.I.P. (Vagabonds In Power), Authority Stealing and Coffin For Head Of State. In "International Thief Thief," Fela makes highly insulting, personal attacks on former Nigerian president General Obasanjo, and Moshood Abiola, the local chief executive of the multi-national corporations Internal Telephone & Telegraph (ITT) and Decca Records. Obasanjo Fela regarded as a crook, an incompetent and a thug, and held him responsible for the death of his mother following the 1977 sack of Kalakuta. Abiola, he believed, had both cheated him out of royalties and conspired with Decca's London bosses to silence him after the 1977 attack, in order to maintain favourable relations with Obasanjo's regime. This album was Fela's full-on sonic revenge on the military regime that attacked and brutalized him and his compound in Lagos twice in 1974. The raids on his Kalakuta Republic were an attempt by the Nigerian police and army to silence Fela. Brought to trial on trumped up charges with no substantive evidence, the court dismissed the case, set him free, and made him an even larger hero to the people of Nigeria. Fear Not For Man was one of the first albums to be released by Fela following the sacking of his Kalakuta Republic compound by 1,000 soldiers in February 1977. Fela, along with many other Kalakuta residents, was brutally beaten; his mother, then aged 77, was thrown out of a window, fracturing a leg. The army set fire to the compound, destroying six Afrika 70 vehicles, all Fela's master tapes and band equipment, a four-track recording studio, and all the community members' personal belongings. It is doubtful, contrary to some sources, that Fear Not For Man was recorded after the attack - doubt which isn't dispelled by the gruesome front sleeve design, showing blood flowing down Fela's face. His response came later, on albums such as Unknown Soldier (1979) and Coffin For Head Of State (1980); Fela's practice of no longer performing a song live once he had released it on record is the reason for the two/three year gap between the attack and the release of these albums.

Tracklist

1. Fear Not For Man (14:14)

2. Palm Wine Sound (15:25)

UPC: 720841204114
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Knitting Factory Records (KFR5011) · Released: 2016 · Country: USA & Europe

Tracklist

CD One: Open And Close / Afrodisiac

1-1 Open & Close – 14:55

1-2 Swegbe And Pako – 12:30

1-3 Gbagada Gbagada Gbagodo Gbogodo – 9:19

1-4 Alu Jon Jonki Jon – 12:41

1-5 Jeun Ko Ku (Chop 'n Quench) – 7:14

1-6 Eko Ile – 6:41

1-7 Je Nwi Temi (Don't Gag Me) – 13:15

CD Two: J.J.D. (Johnny Just Drop) on vinyl LP. Previously only available as part of the Box Set series, the reissue features original album artwork designed by Lemi Ghariokwu, who created the cover art for around half of Fela's albums. Originally released in 1977, J.J.D. (Johnny Just Drop) features Fela lampooning Nigeria's "been-tos," people who had been to Europe or America to work or study, and then returned (dropped) home with European social pretensions and an inferiority complex about African culture. The audio has been restored and remastered from Fela's original Nigerian recordings.

UPC: 720841208310
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 12.13.19
Format: LP Vinyl

Tracklist

1. J.J.D. The two extended compositions here show how Afrobeat's architecture, long builds, locked rhythms, and horn punctuation, could carry social critique as naturally as any speech or pamphlet.

Limited orange colored vinyl LP pressing. Excuse-O isn't just a showcase of Fela's ability to build a groove that could fill a full LP side; it's a masterclass in personal and political criticism wrapped in two exceptional extended grooves. The title track A-side is a jittery rhythm where Fela sings of the many small agitating things that he comes across that could lead to an argument, or if unchecked, escalate to a fistfight; the track culminates in his annoyance of finding another man chatting up a woman he just went to buy a drink for. The B-side is a denunciation of Nigerians' cultural inferiority complex and how the use of "proper English" language affected all aspects of one's life. This pointed commentary on post-colonial life is set in a smoother groove with call-and-response vocals driving the message home. This album marks the moment he moved away from singing exclusively in Yoruba and began to sing more in Pidgin, or as he called it "Broken English," to widen the appeal of his music. This edition is pressed on Monkey Kola Orange (opaque orange) vinyl.

Tracklist

1. Excuse (13:45)

2. Mr Grammarticalogy-Lisationalsim Is The Boss (16:39)

UPC: 720841207436
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 1.26.24
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Knitting Factory Records (KFR5011) · Released: 2016 · Country: USA & Europe

Tracklist

CD One: Open And Close / Afrodisiac

1-1 Open & Close – 14:55

1-2 Swegbe And Pako – 12:30

1-3 Gbagada Gbagada Gbagodo Gbogodo – 9:19

1-4 Alu Jon Jonki Jon – 12:41

1-5 Jeun Ko Ku (Chop 'n Quench) – 7:14

1-6 Eko Ile – 6:41

1-7 Je Nwi Temi (Don't Gag Me) – 13:15

CD Two: J.J.D. The last album of newly recorded material to be released during Fela's lifetime, 1992's Underground System is an outstanding swansong. While Fela's recorded output slowed up as the '80s progressed - largely as a result of ongoing arrests, beatings and jailings - his final years of recording produced some of his strongest work, notably Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense (1986), Beasts Of No Nation (1989), Overtake Don Overtake Overtake (1990) and Underground System. The audio has been restored and remastered from Fela's original Nigerian recordings. The band's rhythm section has always been the engine, and this record captures Eddie Roberts and company at a peak of cohesion, delivering the kind of organic, no-frills funk that owes as much to the Meters and Booker T. as it does to the Leeds club circuit where they came up.

KU is paying tribute to one of the most acclaimed and iconic records in the NMS catalogue, with a 2LP vinyl release, with brand new artwork & a bonus remix. The re-release is an opportunity for new fans to be exposed to this masterpiece LP, old fans to explore a NMS classic through fresh ears, and for the band to reflect back on the record they made nearly 15 years ago. As far as recording the record, there was nothing new about the approach. By this time the band had found a formula for making records that they found to make most sense and suit their chemistry well. Richard Formby was their goto engineer and Hall Place Studios in Leeds, was the space that breeds the desired sounds. This process would remain the same until the band started making records in the United States a few years later. The KU 'Plug & Play' Reissue is snapshot in time of a band that was around their 10 year mark of their career. There's an undeniable chemistry and energy captured in the recordings that could only come from musicians who were tapped in and listening to one another's ideas and playing. With each track leaving you wondering how they were able to find that much pocket, and how much deeper could it possibly go!

Tracklist

Side A

1. Hole In The Bag (3:22)

2. I Mean It So (3:45)

3. Thermal Bad (4:09)

Side B

1. Looking For An Answer (3:29)

2. Altitude (5:58)

3. Kuna Matata (3:19)

Side C

1. Chrysalis (3:29)

2. Idris (3:49)

3. All We Can Do (4:45)

Side D

1. Beyond The Bleak Horizon (5:14)

2. King Comforter (3:51)

3. All We Can Do

UPC: 824833035899
Label: King Underground
Release Date: 6.3.22
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: One Note (ONRLP011) · Released: 2008 · Country: UK

Tracklist

A1 Hole In The Bag – 3:22

A2 I Mean It So – 3:45

A3 Thermal Bad – 4:09

A4 Looking For An Answer – 3:29

A5 Altitude – 5:58

B1 Kuna Matata – 3:19

B2 Chrysalis – 3:29

B3 Idris – 3:49

B4 All We Can Do – 4:45

B5 Beyond The Bleak Horizon – 5:14

B6 King Comforter – 3:51

Credits

Fabrice Garcia Aka Brother Jug – Artwork By (Sleeve Design)

Pete Shand – Bass Guitar

Simon Allen (6) – Drums

Eddie Roberts – Guitar, Tambourine

Pete Norman – Mastered By (Vinyl Mastering)

Richard Formby – Mastered By, Recorded By

Joe Tatton – Organ, Piano

Simon Allen (6) – Other (Label Management)

Sam Bell (2) – Percussion

Eddie Roberts – Producer

Troy Howe – Vocals

Dionne Charles – Vocals (Featuring)

Eddie Roberts – Written-By

Joe Tatton – Written-By

Pete Shand – Written-By

Simon Allen (6) – Written-By

Dionne Charles – Written-By (Additional)

Troy Howe – Written-By (Additional)

Tyla announced herself to the world with "Water," a song that spread through social media and onto dance floors across six continents before earning her the first-ever Grammy for Best African Music Performance in 2024.
