This solo piano session captures him in an intimate setting, stripping away the horns and rhythm sections he so masterfully arranged for others, leaving just the songs and the man who wrote them.

Allen Toussaint’s critically acclaimed Songbook album is available for the first time on vinyl on this 2-LP edition. A new 2-CD format is also available featuring the original album plus 20 unreleased bonus recordings. Recorded at Joe’s Pub in New York City in 2009 the album brings together Toussaint, a piano and his extensive catalog of songs. With the spotlight on his originals, it includes "Lipstick Traces (On a Cigarette)," "Holy Cow," "Get Out of My Life, Woman," and more.

Tracklist

1. Introduction

2. It's Raining

3. Lipstick Traces

4. Introduction to Brickyard Blues

5. Brickyard Blues

6. With You In Mind

7. Who’s Gonna Help Brother Get Further

8. Sweet Touch of Love

9. Holy Cow

10. Introduction to Get Out My Life, Woman

11. Get Out My Life, Woman

12. Freedom for the Stallion

13. St. James Infirmary

14. Introduction to Shrimp Po-Boy, Dressed

15. Shrimp Po-Boy, Dressed

16. Soul Sister

17. All These Things

18. We Are America/Yes We Can

19. The Optimism Blues

20. Old Records

21. Certain Girl Medley: Certain Girl/Mother-in-Law/Fortune Teller/Working In The Coal Mine

22. It’s A New Orleans Thing

23. I Could Eat Crawfish Everyday

24. There’s No Place Like New York

25. Southern Nights

UPC: 888072741669
Label: Rounder
Release Date: 5.29.26
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Ace (CDCHD 1354) · Released: 2012 · Country: UK

Tracklist

1 Here Come The Girls – 3:07

2 Hercules – 4:00

3 What Is Success – 3:28

4 Occapella – 2:39

5 Let's Live – 2:34

6 Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky (From Now On) – 3:13

7 Ride Your Pony – 3:16

8 Soul Sister – 2:46

9 Working In The Coalmine – 3:01

10 Get Out Of My Life Woman – 3:19

11 Sweet Touch Of Love – 3:34

12 Shoo-Rah – 2:47

13 Yes We Can Can – 3:53

14 Fortune Teller – 2:11

15 Freedom For The Stallion – 3:06

16 Sneakin' Sally Thu' The Alley – 4:22

17 Whoever's Thrilling You (Is Killing Me) – 3:13

18 Brickyard Blues (Play Somethin' Sweet) – 4:29

19 What Do You Want The Girl To Do – 4:46

20 I'll Be Rolling With The Punches – 3:06

21 Tampin' – 3:01

22 A Certain Girl – 2:41

23 Holy Cow – 2:30

24 Southern Nights – 2:58

Credits

Tony Rounce – Compiled By, Liner Notes

Neil Dell – Design (Package)

Duncan Cowell – Mastered By

Allen Toussaint – Written-By

Naomi Neville – Written-By
