This collection pulls back to those source recordings, tracing the roots of songs that would travel further than anyone in that room could have imagined, heard here in the voices and arrangements closest to their origins.

- 2LP 140-gram vinyl come in a gatefold sleeve - Including the ORIGINAL versions of Bob Marley's most cherished songs- Featuring nine of Rolling Stone's Top 50 Marley songs of all time- Essay by Dean Rudland (Acid Jazz)- 2 printed inner sleeves featuring previously unpublished photographs. BOB MARLEY is one of those artists for whom it is impossible to divorce their cultural impact from their musical achievement. Marley became the first music superstar from outside the UK or US, his success reached nations that other rock stars didn't, he was truly international, as big in Lagos or Harare as he was in London or New York. As the 1970s dawned The Wailers were finding their way in the musical world and at least part of their work was formed from one of the essential collaborations in Jamaican music. These recordings saw The Wailers working with Lee Perry and the music that they created forms the basis of our unique compilation that made hits and music as vital as anything that would follow. Looking at the history of the music industry in the last 40 years, stardom has internationalised. No longer will an artist's success be restricted to the United States, Europe and Australasia. Beyonce, Kanye West et al are known wherever there is an internet connection. Yet superstars still largely come from the U. S. , and Bob Marley stands out as the only musical star of his magnitude to have emerged from Jamaica, a country whose per capita musical output dwarfs almost anywhere else in the world. He was a unique talent whose music continues to reverberate.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Hypocrites

2. Kaya

3. Small Axe

4. Stand Alone

5. Who Is Mr. Brown

6. Duppy Conqueror

7. Soul Rebel

Side B

1. Sun Is Shining

2. Corner Stone

3. Mellow Mood

4. Rainbow Country

5. African Herbsman

6. Caution

7. Lively Up Yourself

8. Back Out

Side C

1. Modern Judas

2. Concrete Jungle

3. Get Up, Stand Up

4. No Woman, No Cry

5. I'm Still Waiting

6. Cherry Wood

7. King of Kings

Side D

1. Natural Mystic

2. I Shot The Sheriff

3. Stir It Up

4. Fire Fire

5. Waiting In Vain

6. Simmer Down

7. Nice Tme

UPC: 5060767442517
Label: Charly
Release Date: 7.19.24
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Charly Records (CHARLY626LP) · Released: 2024 · Country: Europe

Tracklist

A1 Hypocrites

A2 Kaya

A3 Small Axe

A4 Stand Alone

A5 Who Is Mr. Brown

A6 Duppy Conqueror

A7 Soul Rebel

B1 Sun Is Shining

B2 Corner Stone

B3 Mellow Mood

B4 Rainbow Country

B5 African Herbsman

B6 Caution

B7 Lively Up Yourself

B8 Back Out

C1 Modern Judas

C2 Concrete Jungle

C3 Get Up, Stand Up

C4 No Woman, No Cry

C5 I'm Still Waiting

C6 Cherry Wood

C7 King of Kings

D1 Natural Mystic

D2 I Shot The Sheriff

D3 Stir It Up

D4 Fire Fire

D5 Waiting In Vain

D6 Simmer Down

D7 Nice Tme
