Tenor saxophonist Clifford Jordan blew in from Chicago in 1957 and put the NYC jazz scene on notice with a trio of excellent Blue Note sessions including Blowing in from Chicago co-led with John Gilmore, the self-title Cliff Jordan, and Cliff Craft. This third album featured Jordan at the helm of first-rate hard bop quintet with Art Farmer on trumpet, Sonny Clark on piano, George Tucker on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. Side 1 presented three Jordan originals including the sublime "Laconia," "Soul-Lo Blues," and the hard-swinging title track. Side 2 found Jordan playing well-known tunes by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Duke Ellington including "Confirmation," "Anthropology," and a show-stopping version of the ballad "Sophisticated Lady."

Tracklist

Side A

1. Laconia

2. Soul-Lo Blues

3. Cliff Craft

Side B

1. Confirmation

2. Sophisticated Lady

3. Anthropology

UPC: 602458807844
Label: Blue Note Records
Release Date: 7.19.24
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Blue Note (5880784, 00602458807844, 81582, BST 81582, ST-81582); UMe (5880784, 00602458807844) · Released: 2024 · Country: Worldwide

Tracklist

A1 Laconia

A2 Soul-Lo Blues

A3 Cliff Craft

B1 Confirmation

B2 Sophisticated Lady

B3 Anthropology

Credits

George Tucker – Bass

Reid Miles – Design (Cover Design By), Cover (Cover Design By)

Louis Hayes – Drums

Kevin Gray – Lacquer Cut By

Robert Levin (2) – Liner Notes

Kevin Gray – Mastered By (LP Mastering)

Francis Wolff – Photography By (Cover Photo By), Cover (Cover Photo By)

Sonny Clark – Piano

Rudy Van Gelder – Recorded By (Recording By)

Clifford Jordan – Tenor Saxophone

Art Farmer – Trumpet
