Recorded during Blue Note's peak soul-jazz era, *Hootin' N' Tootin'* captures a hard-blowing tenor saxophonist fully in his element, anchored by the Hammond organ of Earl Van Dyke, who would later become the musical backbone of Motown's legendary Funk Brothers.

In addition to appearing as a sideman with Blue Note organists Baby Face Willette & Big John Patton, the brawny tenor saxophonist Fred Jackson also cut his soulful leader debut for the label in 1962. Hootin' 'N Tootin' features organist Earl Van Dyke, guitarist Willie Jones and drummer Wilbert Hogan. This stereo Blue Note Tone Poet Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Dippin' In The Bag

2. Southern Exposure

3. Preach Brother

Side B

1. Hootin' 'N Tootin'

2. Easin' On Down

3. That's Where It's At

4. Way Down Home

UPC: 602458422771
Label: Blue Note Records
Release Date: 4.3.26
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Analogue Productions (AP-84094); Blue Note (BST-84094, ST-84094, 84094); EMI (509992-13210-1-6) · Released: 2008 · Country: US

Tracklist

A1 Dippin' In The Bag – 3:53

A2 Southern Exposure – 6:43

B1 Preach Brother – 5:37

C1 Hootin' 'N Tootin' – 4:27

C2 Easin' On Down – 6:09

D1 That's Where It's At – 5:01

D2 Way Down Home – 5:07

Credits

Reid Miles – Cover (Cover Design), Design (Cover Design)

Wilbert Hogan – Drums

Willie Jones (5) – Guitar

Kevin Gray – Lacquer Cut By

Steve Hoffman – Lacquer Cut By

Dudley Williams – Liner Notes

Kevin Gray – Mastered By

Steve Hoffman – Mastered By

Earl Van Dyke – Organ

Francis Wolff – Photography By (Cover Photo By)

Rudy Van Gelder – Recorded By (Recording By)

Fred Jackson – Tenor Saxophone (Tenor Sax)
