Gil Scott-Heron came to prominence in the late 60s and early 70s and is cited as a supreme influence on countless Hip Hop vocalists and producers. Despite an incredible and influential body of work, he has not released an album since the '90s. Produced by XL label owner Richard Russell, I'm New Here sees Gil reflecting on his life with his trademark vocal power and insight, sharing his visions among Russell's flickering, electronic soundscapes; which at various times conjure up thoughts of Burial and the XX, as well as a host of Hip Hop influenced sounds. The album is brave, contemporary and quintessentially Gil Scott-Heron.

Tracklist

Side A

1. On Coming From A Broken Home (Part 1)

2. Me And The Devil

3. I'm New Here

4. Your Soul And Mine

5. Parents (Interlude)

6. I'll Take Care Of You

7. Being Blessed (Interlude)

Side B

1. Where Did The Nights Go

2. I Was Guided (Interlude)

3. New York Is Killing Me

4. Certain Things

5. Running

6. The Crutch

7. I've Been Me (Interlude)

8. On Coming From A Broken Home (Part 2)

UPC: 634904947118
Label: XL Recordings
Release Date: 2.9.10
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: XL Recordings (XLLP471) · Released: 2010 · Country: Worldwide

Tracklist

A1 On Coming From A Broken Home (Part 1) – 2:20

A2 Me And The Devil – 3:33

A3 I'm New Here – 3:33

A4 Your Soul And Mine – 2:02

A5 Parents (Interlude) – 0:18

A6 I'll Take Care Of You – 2:58

A7 Being Blessed (Interlude) – 0:12

B1 Where Did The Night Go – 1:14

B2 I Was Guided (Interlude) – 0:14

B3 New York Is Killing Me – 4:29

B4 Certain Things (Interlude) – 0:08

B5 Running – 2:00

B6 The Crutch – 2:44

B7 I've Been Me (Interlude) – 0:16

B8 On Coming From A Broken Home (Part 2) – 2:15

Credits

Lawson White – Arranged By (Strings)

Phil Lee (5) – Artwork

Ichiho Nishiki – Engineer

Lawson White – Engineer, Mixed By, Arranged By (Strings)

Mike Marsh – Lacquer Cut By

Richard Russell – Photography By (Cover)

Mischa Richter – Photography By, Artwork

Richard Russell – Producer

Rodaidh McDonald – Recorded By, Mixed By (Additional)

Gil Scott-Heron – Vocals, Piano, Liner Notes

Gil Scott-Heron – Written-By
