lizz-wright-kenny-banks-sr-nearness-lp-vinyl
Lizz Wright / Kenny Banks Sr. – Nearness

Lizz Wright has always occupied a rare space in American music, her deep Georgia roots threading together gospel, jazz, and soul in ways that feel less like genre-blending and more like natural inheritance. Kenny Banks Sr. has been a pillar of that same Southern sacred music tradition, the kind of accompanist whose vocabulary runs from the sanctified to the secular without missing a beat. What they've built here over two decades of trust is the sort of collaboration that can't be manufactured in a recording session.

An intimate testament to a twenty-year musical kinship, Nearness brings together the singular voice of Lizz Wright and the masterly piano and organ playing of Kenny Banks Sr. Born from a chance meeting decades ago, where an impromptu blues version of "Amazing Grace" changed Wright's artistic path, this collaborative album explores the profound space where jazz standards, sacred spirituals, and personal memories intersect. From the resilient power of the lead single "Soon I'll Be Done" to the striking vulnerability of the title track, Nearness celebrates the endurance, joy, and transformative power of a kindred spirit.

Tracklist:

The Nearness of You

Jazz Ain't Nothing

Soon I Will Be Done

Hold on

All the Things You Are

Amazing Grace

Just You, Just Me

Hold Me

How I Got Over

Deep River

Circling

UPC: 708857340316
Label: Candid
Release Date: 9.25.26
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Blues & Greens Records (CAN 34031) · Released: 2026 · Country: US

Tracklist

A 1 The Nearness Of You

A 2 Jazz Ain't Nothing But Soul

A 3 Soon I Will Be Done

A 4 All The Things You Are

B 1 Amazing Grace

B 2 How I Got Over

B 3 Hold Me

B 4 Deep River

B 5 Circling

Credits

Kenny Banks – Musician

Lizz Wright – Vocals
