oregon-beyond-words-one-step-lp-vinyl
Oregon – Beyond Words (One-Step LP Vinyl)

Oregon spent the better part of five decades quietly rewriting the rules of what acoustic improvisation could sound like, drawing from Indian classical, folk, and avant-garde jazz without ever announcing the seams. *Beyond Words*, recorded after the loss of founding percussionist Collin Wolcott, finds Towner, Moore, and McCandless channeling grief and resilience into something remarkably open and alive. Chesky's one-step pressing does justice to the trio's signature transparency of tone.

As part of their Chesky Original Masters reissue series, the audiophile label Chesky Records is releasing Oregon's Beyond Words. Ralph Towner on guitar and keyboards, bassist Glen Moore, and Paul McCandless (playing six different wind instruments) are featured at their most creative. Beyond Words features Oregon during a period when the group was a trio after the passing of percussionist Collin Wolcott. The unique band, which blended together modern jazz with rhythms, melodies and sounds inspired by the music of other cultures, was always unclassifiable and ""beyond words."" Performing originals by Towner and Moore, Jim Pepper's famous ""Witchi-Tai-To,"" and a three-part free improvisation, the trio displays plenty of variety in moods (ranging from the whimsical to the somber), sounds (Towner's acoustic classical guitar contrasts with his work on synth), and instrumentation with McCandless featured on soprano, sopranino, oboe, bass clarinet, English horn, and penny whistle. Highlights include the driving, rollicking energy of ""Ecotopia,"" the playfully infectious groove of ""Pepé Linque,"" a classical-inspired rendition of ""Les Douzilles,"" and most notably, the trio delivers a deeply introspective version of ""The Silence Of A Candle."" No matter the mood or the instrumentation, all of the performances on Beyond Words are as memorable and ascolorful as the group itself. The return of Oregon's Beyond Words is a very welcome event that will be cherished by fans of the band and their innovative music. The title will be reissued on SACD Hybrid Stereo and 180g One-step Pressing Vinyl LP.

Tracklist

1. Rewind (4:34)

2. Ecotopia (7:45)

3. Green And Golden (5:04)

4. Pepé Linque (5:16)

5. Les Douzilles (9:38)

6. The Silence Of A Candle (5:19)

7. Sicilian Walk (3:13)

8. Leather Cats (9:04)

9. Witchi-Tai-To (8:10)

UPC: 4895241453342
Label: Chesky Records
Release Date: 9.18.26
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Chesky Records (EVLP124BL) · Released: 2026 · Country: Worldwide

Tracklist

A1 Rewind – 4:34

A2 Ecotopia – 7:45

A3 Green And Golden – 5:04

A4 Pepé Linque – 5:16

B1 Les Douzilles – 9:38

B2 The Silence Of A Candle – 5:19

B3 Witchi-Tai-To – 8:10

Credits

Peter Cho – A&R

Glen Moore – Bass

Paul McCandless – Bass Clarinet, Oboe, Soprano Saxophone, Sopranino Saxophone, English Horn, Whistle (Penny Whistle)

Ralph Towner – Classical Guitar, 12-String Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Synthesizer

George Kaye – Consultant (Technical)

Andrea Fusina – Coordinator (Production Assistants)

Lisa Hershfield – Coordinator (Production Assistants)

David Windmuller – Coordinator (Session Assistant)

John Panagiotakis – Coordinator (Session Assistant)

Ross Hudson – Design (Photo Collage + Design)

Miguel Kertsman – Editor, Mastered By

Asier Leatxe – Engineer (Assistant)

Keddins Etienne – Engineer (Assistant)

Norman Chesky – Executive-Producer

Scott Yanow – Liner Notes

David Chesky – Producer

Steve Guttenberg – Producer (Assistant)

Shari Rothstein – Production Manager

Roy Spangenthal – Project Manager (Project Director)

Bob Katz – Recorded By

Ray Conti – Tuner (Piano)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4609/5166/files/Oregon-Beyond-Words-180g-One-Step-Pressing-Vinyl.jpg?v=1791195868
