Their recordings, lush with orchestral strings and tight harmony vocals, document a moment when Broad Street soul was reshaping American R&B, even if wider recognition never followed. For collectors and soul devotees, this is the kind of buried treasure that reissues exist to surface.

The soul music scene was bursting with energy in the early 1970s. In Detroit, Berry Gordy's Motown was the "Sound of Young America" and Philly was next with "The Sound of Philadelphia. "Undoubtedly, one of the best local vocal groups of the time that defined what came to be known as "Philly Soul"was the Philly Devotions. As good as any of the better-known groups associated with this sweet sound, the Devotions' singles were largely ignored by commercial radio. The frustration became too much to bear and sadly, the group eventually disbanded. Presented here for the first time is a complete collection of the Philly Devotions recordings, capturing all the components that became hallmarks of the early Philly sound, remastered and pressed on limited edition color vinyl.

Tracklist:

Didn't Anyone Ever Tell You I Love You, Baby

Makin' Up

I'll Never Color You A Rainbow

Yeah, Yeah Girl

Come Over On The Lovin' Side

I Just Can't Say Goodbye

We're Going To Make It

I Was Lonely Man

I Just Can't Make It(Without You)

Hurt So Bad

Isn't It A Dream Come True

It's Gotta Be This Way

UPC: 5061119460265
Label: Sonic Wax Records
Release Date: 9.4.26
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Essential Media Group (942 314 742-2) · Released: 2011 · Country: US

Tracklist

1 Didn't Anyone Ever Tell You I Love You – 2:54

2 Makin' Up – 3:17

3 I'll Never Color You A Rainbow – 3:27

4 Yeah, Yeah Girl – 2:54

5 Come Over On The Lovin' Side – 3:00

6 I Just Can't Say Goodbye – 3:11

7 We're Gonna Make It – 3:07

8 I Was A Lonely Man – 3:19

9 I Just Can't Make It (Without You) – 3:07

10 Hurt So Bad – 2:41

11 Isn't It A Dream Come True – 3:34

12 It's Gotta Be This Way – 3:17

13 I Just Can't Make It (Without You) (Extended Mix) – 4:50

14 Hurt So Bad (Extended Mix) – 5:38

15 I Just Can't Say Goodbye (Instrumental) – 3:01

Credits

Michael Lauzardo (2) – Art Direction, Design

Ricardo Pantoja – Mastered By

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4609/5166/files/Philly-Devotions-Were-Gonna-Make-It-Colored-Limited-Edition-Red-LP-Vinyl.jpg?v=1791134817
