His pairing with Shirley Scott here draws on a deep well, the two had recorded together extensively and shared a musical intuition that goes beyond sideman chemistry. For fans who know their way around the organ-tenor groove tradition, this one rewards close listening.

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine imbued every note he played with feeling and soul. His lesser-known 1968 classic, Common Touch, featured organist Shirley Scott, guitarist Jimmy Ponder, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Leo Morris (aka Idris Muhammad). Highlights include the groovy "Buster Brown" and the slow burn of "Lonely Avenue." Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Buster Brown (5:20)

2. Blowin' In The Wind (5:45)

3. Lonely Avenue (8:02)

Side B

1. Boogaloo (6:20)

2. Common Touch (6:15)

3. Living Through It All (7:15)

UPC: 602445353279
Label: Blue Note Records
Release Date: 10.28.22
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Blue Note (4535327, BST 84315, 84315, 00602445353279); UMe (4535327, 00602445353279) · Released: 2022 · Country: Worldwide

Tracklist

A1 Buster Brown – 5:20

A2 Blowin' In The Wind – 5:45

A3 Lonely Avenue – 8:02

B1 Boogaloo – 6:20

B2 Common Touch – 6:15

B3 Living Through It All – 7:15

Credits

Frank Gauna – Art Direction (Art Director)

Bob Cranshaw – Bass (Fender)

Leo Morris – Drums

Jimmy Ponder – Guitar

Kevin Gray – Lacquer Cut By

Viv Roundtree – Liner Notes

Kevin Gray – Mastered By (LP Mastering)

Shirley Scott – Organ

Francis Wolff – Photography By (Cover Photo By), Cover (Cover Photo By)

Francis Wolff – Producer (Produced By)

Rudy Van Gelder – Recorded By (Recording By)

Stanley Turrentine – Tenor Saxophone
