That debut LP introduced the world to a rhythm section so locked and telepathic that it would later anchor sessions for Dr. John, Paul McCartney, and Robert Palmer, making the Meters one of the most sampled and studied bands in American music history.

Debut 1969 album by New Orleans' The Meters. Led by organist Art Neville, the quartet was rounded out by jazz-influenced guitarist Leo Nocentelli, along with the bubbling rhythm section of bassist George Porter, Jr. And drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste. Their regional influences were a smashing together of rock n' roll, syncopated 'second line' rhythms from Mardi Gras parades, and jazz improvisations that only could have come from the New Orleans music scene. The Meters helped move R&B music toward the heavier direction of funk-complicated rhythms meeting economically powerful riffs that were the wave of what was to come.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Cissy Strut (3:00)

2. Here Comes The Meter Man (2:49)

3. Cardova (4:30)

4. Live Wire (2:35)

5. Art (2:30)

6. Sophisticated Cissy (2:50)

Side B

1. Ease Back (2:55)

2. 6V6 LA (2:20)

3. Sehorns Farm (2:20)

4. Ann (2:40)

5. Stormy (3:32)

6. Simple Song (2:56)

UPC: 843563191583
Label: Jackpot Records
Release Date: 9.5.25
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Warner Strategic Marketing United Kingdom (none) · Released: 2001 · Country: UK

Tracklist

1 Cissy Strut – 3:04

2 Here Comes The Meter Man – 2:54

3 Cardova – 4:32

4 Live Wire – 2:39

5 Art – 2:32

6 Sophisticated Cissy – 2:55

7 Ease Back – 3:13

8 6V6 LA – 2:24

9 Sehorn's Farm – 2:28

10 Ann – 2:44

11 Stormy – 3:37

12 Sing A Simple Song – 3:02

Bonus Tracks

13 The Look Of Love – 3:36

14 Soul Machine – 3:28
