The fact that Blue Note shelved this session for nearly four decades makes its existence feel almost miraculous, and Joe Harley's Tone Poet treatment gives these performances the weight and warmth they always deserved.

The Waiting Game was the unsung tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks' final album, recorded in 1961 and released in `99. Joined here by Johnny Coles (trumpet), Kenny Drew (piano), Wilbur Ware (bass) & Philly Joe Jones (drums). Brooks penned five tracks, showcasing his unique compositional talent. Highlights include the opener "Talkin' About" and the modal masterpieces "Dhyana" and "David the King." Blue Note Tone Poet Series features all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Talkin' About

2. One For Myrtle

3. Dhyana

Side B

1. David The King

2. Stranger In Paradise

3. The Waiting Game

UPC: 602508934193
Label: Blue Note Records
Release Date: 1.8.21
Format: LP Vinyl

Details

Label: Blue Note (B0032109-01, BST 40536, ST-40536, 40536) · Released: 2021 · Country: Worldwide

Tracklist

A1 Talkin' About

A2 One For Myrtle

A3 Dhyana

B1 David The King

B2 Stranger In Paradise

B3 The Waiting Game

Credits

Wilbur Ware – Bass

Kaoru Taku – Design (Cover Design), Cover (Cover Design)

"Philly" Joe Jones – Drums

Rudy Van Gelder – Engineer (Recording Engineer)

Kevin Gray – Lacquer Cut By

Michael Cuscuna – Liner Notes

Kevin Gray – Mastered By (LP Mastering By)

Francis Wolff – Photography By (Photography)

Mosaic Images – Photography By (Photography)

Kenny Drew – Piano

Alfred Lion – Producer (Original Sessions Produced By)

Joe Harley – Reissue Producer (LP Reissue Supervision By), Supervised By (LP Reissue Supervision By)

Tina Brooks – Tenor Saxophone

Johnny Coles – Trumpet
